Nickel is about 5,000 times cheaper than palladium so its compounds are considered as an alternative to expensive Pd-catalysts. However generating of catalytically active forms of Ni(0) frequently is a serios problem. Therefore expensive and highly air-unstable compounds of zerovalent Nickel such as Ni(COD)2 are usually used as catalysts.
