Congratulations to Oleg Khazipov and autors! The article has been published in Organic Chemistry Frontiers!

Nickel is about 5,000 times cheaper than palladium so its compounds are considered as an alternative to expensive Pd-catalysts. However generating of catalytically active forms of Ni(0) frequently is a serios problem. Therefore expensive and highly air-unstable compounds of zerovalent Nickel such as Ni(COD)2 are usually used as catalysts. Our new article published in Organic Chemistry Frontiers described a new simple method for the generation of active Ni(0)/NHC systems from a stable industrial reagent - nickelocene and safe sodium formate, as well as using of these systems in catalysis of CH-activation reactions DOI LINK
